At its meeting of 28 June 2018, the Board of Trustees of the Balmes University Foundation, owning entity of the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia, in accordance with the provisions of its Statutes and the Organisational and Operational Regulations of the University, decided to set up a further selection process for the post of Rector for the period 2018 - 2022 and the creation, composition and functions of the Selection Committee.



The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia came into being as the result of a locally-led regional initiative that was recognised by the Law of the Parliament of Catalonia 5/1997, of 30 May. It became a federated institution through the agreement between the Balmes University Foundation and the Bages University Foundation of 30 January 2014, signed at the Parliament of Catalonia.

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia is a privately managed institution operating under public supervision, which performs the public service activities of teaching, research and knowledge transfer in a range of fields in which it has experience and expertise, aiming to be a driving force for knowledge.

Catalan is used in general for teaching and administrative activities at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC). The statutes of Catalan universities recognise Catalan as their own language and Spanish as an equally valid language for use at university. UVic-UCC is committed to promoting the use of further languages among the university community, in particular English, in line with the university's international vocation.

With strong local roots and close ties to the community, UVic-UCC maintains important relationships in the region and a strong commitment to the cultural, social and economic development of the country.

Students apply for places at UVic-UCC through the general university application scheme of the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia and part of the UVic-UCC annual budget derives from a contract programme agreed between the University and the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia. UVic-UCC is governed by the Balmes University Foundation (FUBalmes), whose Board of Trustees is chaired by the Mayor of Vic and includes representatives of local administrations, the Generalitat of Catalonia, civil society and the university community itself. This system of combined public and private management provides efficient, agile and responsible governance.

The successful candidate for this post, as charged by the Board of Trustees, will serve as the representative of the University before people and public and private sector organisations, performing all the functions set out in Article 34 of the FUBalmes Statutes and Article 42 of the UVic-UCC Organisational and Operational Regulations.

The unique nature of UVic-UCC governance requires effective teamwork and full coordination between the various governing bodies of the institution.



  • Hold a PhD
  • Be a full professor or have equivalent accreditation from a Catalan, Spanish or international quality agency
  • Have excellent command of English, Catalan and Spanish



  • Management experience in university teaching, research and knowledge transfer
  • Skill in human relations and management
  • Experience in international relations in the academic field
  • Leadership and executive capacity in higher education centres, or similar
  • Proven capacity in a representative role in higher education centres, or similar
  • Capacity to take responsibility for attracting new resources and opportunities
